Edmund of York, 4th Duke of York, Earl of Rutland (17 May 1443 – 18 June 1478) was the fourth child and second surviving son of Richard III of England and Cecily Neville. Edmund was the younger brother of Edward IV, father of Edward V, and older brother of Richard IV. He was born in Rouen, then the capital of English-occupied France and his father held the office of Lieutenant of France. Edmund would die in a jousting accident in 1478.
Life[]
Edmund took part in the War of English Succession, fighting in the Battle of York in 1461 - and although injured in the conflict survived the battle. In 1469 Edmund was wed to Isabel Neville - daughter of Richard Neville, 1st Duke of Northumberland. They would have two children. Edmund would serve his father and brother in various roles - particularly as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1461 to 1471 - however falling his protestations of his brother, George's execution and Edward IV's treatment of his queen, Edmund was dismissed from court and spent most of his time at his estates in York.
Edmund would die in a jousting accident in 1478, leaving his son unprepared for his rise to the throne in 1483.
Marriage and Issue[]
Edmund married Isabelle Neville in 1469 - she died in 1476 and Edmund never remarried. They had two children.

- Edward V (25 February 1475 - c April 1483) de jure King of England April 1483 , murdered in Woodville Rebellion.
