The Empire of Meshico was the name of Meshico under a constitutional hereditary monarchy declared by a Meshican Assembly of Notables in accordance with the interests of the Borromeu Dynasty.

History[]

The flight of Alberu Borromeu, the heir apparent to Edardu Borromeu of Romania, to Meshico during the late stages of the Roman Revolution brought about a period of chaos in Meshico.

Having just recovered from the Eleven Year War, Teocolotl Citlalli, Emperor of Meshico, owed his throne to Romania - particularly to the Borromeu dynasty who had sent arms, advice, and support to the Citalalli monarchy in its attempt to retain the throne of Meshico in the face of competing claimants, the Yollohtli, as well as insurgent republicanists.

It was therefore with open arms that Citlalli welcomed the refugee Alberu, some of his family, household, and a degree of Roman refugees, many of them patricians and their households.

The last Roman stronghold in Meshico, was Fort Olua on a small island off the east coast of Meshico and this was to be the Borromeu residence.

Seeing the war as unwinnable for the Borromeu, Meshican General of the Army Cayo Patox began an immediate plot to coup Citlalli, seize the Borromeu refugees, turn them over to the Roman Republicans and declare a Meshican Republic in turn.

Teocolotl was captured and placed on trial with his leading generals Mapachin and Miztli as well as his wife and three children. All seven were sentenced to death and executed on 19 June. The Borromeu family stepped into the void and Alberu declared himself emperor, seizing the Yollohtli family who, though likely having nothing to do with the plot and, as history revealed, were not involved at all, were nonetheless executed. A swift roundup occurred and Cayo Patox narrowly escaped north, further into Hesperia and out of Meshico, but his co-conspirators were not so lucky.

The aid Patox had hoped to receive from the new Roman Republic never came, largely because Romania was still in the recovery stages of their own war. It has been suggested that had Patox waited for Romania to cool down and gather itself his plan would have had the aid it sought. The Republican Romans were certainly unhappy about the Borromeu being in Meshico and would rather have had them removed.

Alberu declared the family name Borroma and officially separated his line from the Borromeu family still in Rome, now de-throned. This action was largely done to prevent a Roman invasion - as the Roman Republic had technically been at war with the Borromeu Dynasty and, now that Alberu was a Borroma and not a Borromeu, this conflict was null and void. It was a shallow move and seen as such; communication remained open between the Borroma and Borromeu lines and there is ample evidence that for a number of decades the two halves of the family were plotting a re-joining.
