Russia (Russian: Росси́я, tr. Rossiya), also officially known as the Empire of Russia (Russian: Российская Империя, tr. Rossiyskaya Imreiya) is a sovereign state in northeastern Eurasia. It is a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy currently under the leadership of Emperor Nicholas IV and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. At 22,368,354 sq km (8,636,471 sq mi), Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. Russia also has one of the world's largest populations, with around 290 million people by January 2015.
