Etcetera Entertainment (known as Nuevo DC from 1992 to 2002) is a bilingual comic book company based in Caracas, Venezuela, and a subsidiary of Brazilian conglomerate Grupo Bloch. Primarily known for material featuring characters formerly published by US-based company DC, Etcetera has garnered a reputation as one of Latin America's premier entertainment companies. "Crossovers" have occurred with characters from Marvelo Comics, Dominion Comics, and the ANZC-based American Comics.

History[]

Nuevo DC was founded on June 25, 1992 by Walter Véliz, a collector of pre-Doomsday media. Gathering various copies of American comics (some real, others faked), he decided to create his own company, inspired by Marvelo Comics. This company specialized in distributing old American comics, retranslated into Spanish. To aid in this endeavor, Véliz hired several translators from Etcétera Productora Cinematográfica, which would be purchased by Brazilian conglomerate Grupo Bloch and renamed Etcetera Producciones later that year. Véliz used advertising to reintroduce these characters to South American audiences and would partner with Editora Abril to publish their titles in Brazil. The company used four other labels in addition to New DC: Fawcett City, DC All Stars, Charlton Classics, and Seal of Quality, each after the original publisher that published those character.

The comics sold well, in spite of lingering contempt for the United States and their involvement in Doomsday, so Véliz began plans to transition the comic towards original stories. To start this, he conceived of a yearlong comic that would shape the setting of the Comic's titles for years to come. This would become Multiversity, Etcetera's highest selling title to date, and would reformat the continuities of the various labels to be one big multiverse.

In 2002, Véliz would sell Nuevo DC to Grupo Bloch, who would rename the company after Etcetera Producciones into Etcetera Entertainment. Bloch would adapt several of their titles for their Rede Machete network in Brazil.
