Overview[]

Iberia, officially the Iberian Federation, is a country mostly located on the Iberian Peninsula in Europe. Its territory also includes three archipelagoes: the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa, the Azores and Madeira in the Atlantic Ocean, and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, other territories in the Mediterranean Sea are Corsica, Sicily and Sardinia - as well as two islands in the Caribbean: Cuba and Puerto Rico. Iberia also has an overseas colony of Isla Blanca (OTL: Isle of Wight). The African enclave of the Iberian Rif makes Iberia the only European country to have a physical border with an African country (Morocco). The country's mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea; to the north and northeast by France and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by the Atlantic Ocean. Iberia is a parliamentary democracy and a parliamentary monarchy, with King Carlos VI as head of state. It is a major developed country and a high income country. It is a member of the United European Council, a military and economic alliance composed of most of the nations in Europe. Iberia's main ally is Germany, as well as its former protectorates in Italy and France, which became fully independent in 1960.

Brief History[]

For history before 1980 visit the page on Spain.

In 1980, there was an economic boom in Europe around the time of the collapse of the CSA as trade increased with the American Continent due to new, liberalistic countries, unlike the old, Communist Government. Spain and Portugal benefited from this the most as their GDP (nominal) increased by over 20%. This encouraged both countries to unite to secure further economic growth. Therefore, on June 1 1980, the Iberian Federation was created. Every year, 1 July is the national holiday "unification day", where everyone takes to the streets and celebrates the birth of the new country, which is now over 40 years old.

Political divisions[]

The Iberian Federation is composed of 23 autonomous communities and three overseas Crown Dependencies.
