The Imperial Commonwealth Federation (ICF), informally known as Britannia or its former name, the British Empire comprised the United Kingdom the other Commonwealth countries who shared the same Monarch and the Territories of those countries, most of these states were part of the former British Empire.

Imperial Council meetings were rotated around annually between the member states, similarly to the meetings of the Commonwealth of Nations, the secretariat was  housed in Marlborough House, London.

As the Head of the Imperial Commonwealth Federation was the Monarch of the Commonwealth Realms, Commonwealth of Nations countries with a republican form of government or those with monarchies of their own were unable to join the ICF.

The ICF was closely allied with the wider Commonwealth of Nations and with France, Italy, the Netherlands and the Nordic Union (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland & Iceland).

Member states of the Imperial Commonwealth Federation[]

  • Commonwealth Realms, which are independent states who share the Monarch, are the senior members of the Imperial Council.
  • Constituent Countries, e.g. the Home Nations of the United Kingdom and the nations which make up the West Indies & Southern Africa Federation are junior members of the Imperial Council.
  • Territories, dependencies and associated states are represented on the Imperial Council by whichever member state they are a part of, for example the Cook Islands are represented at Imperial Council meetings by New Zealand, which it is in Free Association with.
