GameofNations2Banner
Welcome back! It's been nearly a year since I first created Game of Nations, which I must say, was a quite a success. However, to be fair, it had its problems, and eventually died, mostly due to my own negligence. This time around, I hope it will be better developed and more structured, so it can last longer and be more fun. Like to original, this is supposed to mix Map Games with Timelines, so let's get going, and with any luck, we will be able to have some fun with this and maybe generate some good content along the way.

Welcome to the second (and probably last) installment of this game - A Game of Nations.

Rules[]

Basic Rules[]

  • The game starts in 3,000 BC, when players can create a culture in some region of the world (think Indus valley or Mesopotamia). After every player has posted on the first turn, the second turn (500 years later, but it varies based on time period) starts. In the second turn, Players can either create new cultures, or nations out of existing cultures. By 500 BC no more cultures can be created, only nations.
    • While cultures can develop basically anywhere, be plausible with how successful they are - some culture on the Mississippi would be more successful than another on the Great Lakes, which in turn would be more successful than a third in Utah. The upshot is, be plausible with which cultures evolve into nations, and when they do it. If you don't this will be enforced by mods.
  • It is allowed to make nations out of existing nations, but it needs to be explained how it was formed. For example, a nation could completely collapse, or suffer a rebellion, or maybe lose a war.
  • Once you create a nation or culture, it is strongly recommended you make a page for that nation or culture, as well as update the timeline to account for it. If you feel compelled to, you are also welcome to make less important articles, such as for people or wars, though please categorize them if you do that.
  • To sign up for a turn, simply add your name to the claims list. If a player does not make a nation or culture within 24 hours of their turn starting, they are bumped back three slots in line. If said player misses their again, they will be bumped to the end of the line. In addition, the mods can switch the order at will to move the line along, but will make an effort to be fair about it.
  • Please be reasonable with the size and location of your nation or culture. While it's fine to make it big, it shouldn't be huge if it's in say Europe in 1800, or Mesopatamia in 2500 BC. Big nations are generally fine, just so long as they don't take up to much prime real estate.
  • As time marches forward, these rules will be updated to account for that.

Map Rules[]

  • When you make your nation or culture, you are required to add it to the map, and put the map next to your turn, as well as update the current map section.
    • Display your map on your turn as a right aligned thumbnail image with no caption.
    • Display your map on the map section as an unaligned 600px image
  • If you don't have anything to make maps, I'd recommend Paint.Net, Inkscape, or Gimp, all of which are free to download, and easy to use (Paint.net is the easiest). If for some reason you can't download one of those, you may consult a mod to make the map, but please don't abuse this, and try anything else first.
  • I don't really have a preference for what the filename is, as long as it makes some degree of sense and has "(GoN2)" at the end.

Announcements[]

  • Just for clarification, the page extension (the thing in parentheses after a page's title) for this game will be simply "(Game of Nations 2)", rather than the whole mess I have as the actual title.
  • Put your username in the heading of your nation or culture, so the mods can keep track more easily.

Mods[]

Exactly what the name implies. These are the users who have volunteered to keep the game going, and will check for plausibility and formatting. You can message them with any questions or concerns about the game. In order to join, you must have permission from Fires, or two existing mods if Fires is unavailable.
