The Greater Hellenic Empire (Greek: Μεγάλη Ελληνικό Βασίλειο Megálē Ellinikó Vasíleio, Italian: Grande Regno Greco, Bulgarian: Голямо Гръцко Царство Golyamo Grŭtsko Tsarstvo, Macedonian: Големо Грчко Кралство Golemo Grčko Kralstvo, Turkish: Büyük Yunan Krallığı), also known as the Greek Empire or the Second Byzantine Empire, was a sovereign nation that existed from 1943 until its collapse in 1997. The country ruled over the area of Greater Greece, Macedonia, Anatolia, the Levant, southern Croatia, North Africa and southern Italy. The country also had significant influence over the Mespotamia and North Africa.
The under the rule of the House of Komnenos, the Greater Hellenic Empire thrived and was considered one of the world's most powerful countries, boasting an combined military strength of 960,000 troops and more than two million in reserve. However, the overzealousness of the later King Ptolemy led to instability within the country and led to several interconnected protests and wars for independence that ultimately led to the collapse of the Greater Hellenic Empire, reducing it down to Greece, Albania, Macedonia, and all the islands west of Anatolia.
A new reformed monarchy was declared in 1998 with the currently ruling House of Kokkinakis being installed to the throne. The new state was renamed the Imperial State of Greece (Greek: Ελληνικό Βασίλειο Ellinikó Vasíleio).
