The Republic of Thrace, also commonly know as Thrace is a parliamentary republic consisting of 3 regions and a national district. The Thrace regions border countries like Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey. Thrace had a population of over 17 million people with over 81% of the population located in its capital Istanbul. Most of the country is Islamic but many of the people consider themselves secular and accepting to all religions. Thrace's capital Istanbul is the bridge from Europe to Asia.
During World War I, Thrace was not an independent nation. The region at the time was part of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans were getting bombarded in the war with loss after loss. Many Thracians took this as an advantage to gain sovereignty and independence. Once the capital Constantinople fell and the empire started to split up Thracians gained the capital as the Turks rebuilt a new capital in Ankara. Thrace was considered an independent nation on April 5, 1920.
