The Ukrainian Presidential election of 2017 was the first quadrennial presidential election in Ukraine. The victor, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, was made president upon defeating Natalia Korolevska of the Party of Social Democrats, with Petro Symonenko of the Communists coming in a distant third.
The main issue surrounding Ukraine at the time of the election was the nation's position in dealing with the Soviet Union, an entity which Yatsenyuk and Korolevska both believed to be dangerous to the newly formed Ukraine. This belief propagated in either candidate's campaign promises to join both NATO and the EAPS.
