The Most Serene Republic of Venice is a survivor state located in the ex-region of Friuli Venezia-Giulia and Veneto, it also have the Istria after a war with Croatia and Slovenia. 

History[]

The 28th October of the 1962 Rome was bombarded by a Soviet Nuclear Bomb and an EMP attack occurred also, on the first day no one know what happened about the communication, mysteriously disappeared.

At the first the President of the Region would have the fear of being in a war with the Warsaw Pact, but the reality was even more tragic, so the president declared martial law over all Veneto and the divisions of the Italian Army prepare themselves and wait for the arrival of the Yugoslavian Army, but they never arrived, after the dismissal of the divisions and of the other NATO and US divisions the president of the region dismiss martial law and declare a provisional government with the approval of all the prefect of the Veneto, mass agriculture and fishing production was increased in the first months of the Republic, to provide the population food and safety.

The Most Serene Republic Is Reborn[]

On the 12th May of the 1963, the ex-President of the region Angelo Tomelleri was elected Doge of the reborn republic of Venice, by a newly elected Senate of the Republic. One of the first act of the Doge was that of confiscate all the NATO and US military equipment and base for the new armed forces, composed by the divisions and battalion located in Veneto, who was at time one of the most militarized regions of Italy, for the presence of Yugoslavia, after many discussion with Major Gen. John P. Daley an agreement was reached, all the American personal of the Southern European Task Force would serve if they wanted to, in the Multiethnic battalion Sebastiano Venier, formed by ex-NATO and US Army personal, all the US equipment including the nuclear missile will be donated to the Armed Forces, all the US and NATO civilians will be Venetian citizens, when a successor state of the US will be in contact with us the base and the personal will return under US control.

Some patrols came into contact with the ex-region Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Tomellieri proposed a union with the Veneto. The Most Serene Republic of Venice was brought into official status on the 10th of July, 1965. A symbolic and religious ceremony was held in Palace Ducale, where the Doge's office and official residence it's. The Republic adopted the old flag and the coat of arms of the Republic of Venice, a symbol of Liberty and Justice for the Venetians.

In the subsequent years the Republic has made contact with most of the European nations, by this day isn't recognized as a sovereign country by Slovenia and Croatia, who claimed the Istria and the west part of Slovenia as a part of their countries. After the annexation of Istria the Venetian government started a politics of "Italianization" of the territory, with the changing of the name of the place names from the Slovenian and the Croatian to the Italian, the sending of Italian settlers for repopulate Istria with Italians and the forbidden of any anti-Italian movement.

The Republic of Venice is one of the few states of Europe at have nuclear missile, though many states accuse Venice of be too militarized, the republic has good relations with all the nations of Europe, but has rocky relations with Romagna and Russian Republic, for the occupation of Istria, Venice also doesn't have relations with the Roman Republic, Neapolitan Republic, Croatia and Slovenia. In the 1995 with the election of a pro-Italian party they have try of become part the Italian Republic, after some time a referendum was made for decide if remain independence or become part of Italy, and the 51% of the Venetians choose of become part of Italy, after the annexation some riots and strike in the city of Verona and Padua happened by Venetian Nationalist again Italian Nationalist

Bill of Venice[]

Formally and according to the Bill of Venice (Carta di Venezia) the governance is organized as such : 

  • Doge of the Republic, elected by the Senate, every ten years, the current Doge of the Republic is Angelo Tomellieri.
  • Prime Minister, nominated by the Doge. The Prime Minister and their government is responsible for the administration of the Republic, the current prime minister is Luigi Tartari.
  • The Prime Minister appointment his collegio, with the suggestions of the Doge and of the Major Council.
  • The Doge cannot hold office in any other branch of power, and the office's salary and privileges are established by law.
  • The Senate is a unicameral system and is the legislative body of Venice. It is composed of 100 deputies elected by direct universal suffrage every five years.
  • The Major Council can proclaim and in special case vote the laws, they must be countersigned by the Doge and Prime Minister. Is composed by 50 members elected by the Senate. 
  • According to the Bill, any citizen that is fifty on the day of the election, and enjoys civil and political rights, can be elected Doge by the Senate.
  • The Minor Council is the authoritarian body who supervising the actions of the Doge with power of Veto.
  • The Council of Ten is the supreme body of the Republic, with authority over all government actions. Elected by the Senate every year. 

Political Parties []

The political parties of the Senate are several and many various, the most great is the Venetian Party (Partito Veneto), who is a centre-right party and it have 50 seats, other party are the Movement for the Istrian Independence, a party composed in largely part by Croatians and Slovenians, with the intention of give independence at Istria and create the Istrian Republic, the party is accused by the nationalist of be an anti-Italian party and it has five seats, the second large party in the senate is the Communist Party of the Farmers and Workers, who is composed by ex-dirigents of the PCI in Veneto and Friuli, is a far-left party and is the main party at the opposition by now, the party is formally allied with the MII, for the large presence of people with a communist or socialist ideology, it have 30 seats, the smallest party of the Senate is the Italian Social Movement, a far-right and neo-fascist party, the MSI is formally supported by the Partito Veneto for his presence in the government, but is opposed at the Communist Party and at the Istrian Movement, the party it have proposed several time the union of the Republic with the Italian Republic, this idea isn't much supported and only few members of the other party support this idea, anyway many things that at the end Venice will be under Italian control.

The Most Serene Republic of Venice is divided into three regions, ten provinces and several communes, each of the region are administered by a president of the region, who is elected by his citizens, the administrator of the province is the prefect and the commune are administrated by the Podestà, a medieval title for the mayor. The Istria is an autonomous region created in the 1970s, after the capture of the Istria and the western part of Slovenia in 1965, during the Yugoslavian war of independence.

Economy []

The Most Serene Republic of Venice has a mixed economy system. Though traditionally the Venetian economy has been dominated by agriculture and tourism. Education, banking service, security service, telecommunication, transport, health care, social security and access to cultural resources are under the control of the state. 

The Venetian economy is based heavily on agriculture, naval industry, hydropower and electric energy, light manufacturing, viticulture, fishing and shipping.

Venice is energy self-sufficient producing energy from hydro-power, nuclear and other form of energy. 

Health Care[]

Health care is free and accessible for all the citizens of the republic, funded by the state through general taxation and direct revenues collected by local health, through prescription charges and other chargeable services. 

Education[]

Schooling is required by law, and free, compulsory education is obligatory until the 15 years of age. The school system is divided into three stages of education:

  • Primary education, which includes the kindergarten for three years and primary school, five-year.
  • Secondary education, which includes the secondary school level (Middle school) for three years, and the secondary school of second degree (High school) of five-year duration.
  • Higher education, including the universities.  

All the major cities of the republic have campus and university, in large part public and hold by the state, few of that are private and the best universities are located in Verona and in Venezia. It is also present a military school in Venice for the Army and the Navy, the school for the Air Force is located in Treviso.

Mass media[]

In the republic, the official news agency is the Agenzia Stampa Associata (ASA). The most read newspapers are the Corriere della Sera and the the Repubblica. There are no restrictions upon the press based on religion or other factors. The Radio Televisione (RA) is the property of the state. There are only a few private radio stations, though television and radio are fairly common and popular.

Military[]

The Venetian Armed Forces (Forze Armate Veneziane) is an armed force made up of volunteers. All citizens of 17 years can serve in the Armed Forces for 12 months.

The Venetian Armed Forces are equipped with ex-Italian equipment such as BM-59 Beretta or M1 Garand, but since the presence of many base of the US Army and of the other NATO armed forces they have access also at assault rifles AR-10 and AR-15, Colt M1911 pistol and variants, and much other US equipment, after the war with Croatia and Slovenia they have take many AK47 and variants, and other equipment of the Yugoslavian Army.
