Government[]
Taiwan is a monarchy ruled by an emperor. Advising the emperor is the Grand Secretariat, and a council of elected officials, one chosen for each district by the people. The officials have a large amount of power, and the law is fair for most people. Corruption is frowned upon, and if caught, the punishment is harsh.
There are twenty officers on the council. They pass laws and make a yearly budget, although the emperor has the final say on any decision that they make. This council also chooses the heads of various government bodies, but, like the budget and laws, the emperor can override a selection. For the most part this arrangement works, as the people are happy, because for the most part the emperor will pass the laws and agree with the chosen government officials, although occasionally there will be disagreement.
The courts are controlled by Confucian scholars, and the council has no say, or control over them. Unfortunately this has led to some disputes within the government over this, as the people want more control over the court system.

Military[]
The military of Taiwan is a small force focused on defending the nation from China and Japanese aggression. Walls have been constructed at weakly defendable points around the island. The government signed a defense pact with Spain for additional security. There are 20,500 men in the military, and with various part time militias, there are an additional 30,000 men, although they are poorly trained and armed with swords and bow and arrows.
