Forming in 2015 The Progressive Party united Most Left Wing Parties and held a primary for their Presidential nomination after high polling results.

Overview:[]

After a split from The Democrats, The Independent Progressive Party Merged with The Green Party, The Working Families Party, The Peace and Freedom Party, The Legalize Marijuana Now Party, The Socialist Party USA, The Socialist Equality Party, The Humane Party, The US Marijuana Party, The Freedom Socialist Party, The Oregon Progressive Party, The Socialist Party of Oregon, The Progressive Dane's, The Vermont Progressive Party, and the Approval Voting Party to become the Progressive Party USA. This caused a huge amount of left wing democratic support to coalesce around this party instead.

In 2016 Ed Markey, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Gloria La Riva, Jill Stein, Judy Chu, Rocky De La Fuente, Alyson Kennedy, Peta Lindsay, Cynthia Mckinney, Vermin Supreme, and Sedinam Moyowasifza-Curry ran for the nomination.

Senator Obama of Illinois refused to join the party even after pressure from voters to run for the nomination. He stated that he was, is, and always will be a Democrat.

Of the twelve candidates who did run, polling was fairly inconsistent. with no major frontrunner it looked like the eventual nominee would be divisive.

After managing to hold primaries in all states and territories due to a huge membership boost, these were the results of the pre super tuesday primaries:

Before Super Tuesday the remaining candidates each signed an agreement to advocate for a core group of policies surrounding the economy, education, climate change, and more.

After Super Tuesday, Stein, La Riva, McKinney, and De La Fuente pulled out of the race.

Note: De La Fuente suspended his campaign rather then withdrew.

Of The Current Candidates (Sanders, Warren, Curry, Supreme, and Lindsay) It was expected Sanders would win the nomination.

It was unexpected when Sanders pulled out of the race after learning about his potential appointed replacement.from a Republican Governor.

This left the race just between Curry, Warren, Supreme, and Lindsay.

Warren was soon convinced by Sanders that her state's Republican Governor could replace her. So she should focus on the senate instead.
