Finmark was a puppet of the Swedish Kingdom. After the end of the Great Northern War Denmark-Norway Offered Denmark to Sweden and the northern portion of Norway for Sweden to lay off what was left of Norway. With its low population this is one of the minor Swedish puppets. It only has a population of 10,784.

History[]

Once a country of Danish-Norway it was obtained in the great northern war. When Sweden obtained Finmark a garrison was sent to quell any riots. The Capital Vadso is where 25% of the population. Finmark became a principality in 1720. Once Sweden obtained Finmark officially the inhabitants banded together to fortify the capital Vadso. In late 1720 the siege of Vadso or taking Finmark was initiated. The siege lasted for 5 days on the last day the Norwegian defenders chose to surrender. During the siege only five defenders were killed and 17 Swedish Attackers were killed. One defender said

"We would've lasted longer if we were more prepared.We only had minor defenses built and no food stoked. We could've got Russian assistance too"- Norwegian Defender

Out of desperation on the 5th day the defenders decided to accept Swedish rule. Once Sweden had a good hold The Swedish politician Alex von Fersen the Elder or Alex. Once in 1721 the Swedish Monarch visited and rewarded the citizens of Vadso the Swedish Medal Of Honor.

Secret Russian Naval Base[]

In the late 17th century the Russians built a secret naval base somewhere in Finmark. Secret Russian documents say that they have been there for longer. Once the Swedes got a hold of Finmark a 150 man expedition to search for the base. It is unknown how the Swedes knew there was a base but many say that Danish-Norway gave them documents of missing people in Finmark. On July 19th 1721 the first sighting of the base happened. Two weeks later the Swedes burned the naval base. Russia kept silent on the matter due too fear of war.

Economy[]

Due to dependence on the Swedish Riksdaler anything to happen to Sweden happens to Finmark as well. Once a legend that Gold was found but Sweden sent out prospectors for the legend of Gold. It is assumed that they prospectors were taken by the Russians.
