The Holy City of Fort Scott is a small town in pre-Doomsday Kansas that was not directly affected by Doomsday. While facing the same struggles as other small towns across the United States, everything would change during a severe storm in 1987, when a tornado picked up a cow and threw it into a window of a store that many of the townspeople were sheltering in. The cow was unscathed, and after a series of other "miraculous" events, many to begin to worship it. A cult quickly grew around the cow that soon took over. Today, the town is run by cultists who have been breeding the "Holy Family" for generations, with the 6th Great Cow being the de jure ruler of the town.

History[]

Pre-Doomsday History[]

Fort Scott, Kansas, has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The area was first explored by European settlers in 1825 when the United States Army established a military fort, Fort Scott, along the Marmaton River. The fort was strategically positioned to protect the expanding frontier, serve as a supply depot for the army, and regulate relations with Native American tribes in the region. Over time, Fort Scott became a bustling hub of trade, with merchants and settlers flocking to the area, leading to its establishment as a town in 1855.

In the years that followed, Fort Scott played a significant role in the Bleeding Kansas era, a period of violent conflict over the issue of slavery leading up to the American Civil War. The town was a hotspot for political and social tensions, with conflicting ideologies clashing and numerous skirmishes occurring in the area. Despite this tumultuous period, Fort Scott grew steadily and developed into a prominent center of commerce, boasting industries such as milling, manufacturing, and cattle trading. The town also played a vital role in the establishment of the Union Army's Frontier Army, which was tasked with protecting the expanding western frontier during the Civil War. Fort Scott continued to thrive in the late 19th century, with the arrival of the railroad in the 1870s further boosting its economic growth. By the turn of the 20th century, Fort Scott was a bustling community with a diverse population and a vibrant downtown area.

Moving into the 20th century, Fort Scott experienced various economic shifts and social changes. The town faced the challenges of the Great Depression in the 1930s, which led to economic struggles for many residents. However, Fort Scott rebounded in the post-World War II era with the establishment of new industries, such as the manufacture of tires and auto parts. The town also saw significant changes in civil rights and social movements, with the desegregation of schools and businesses in the 1950s and 1960s. By the 1980s, Fort Scott had become a modern community with a strong focus on healthcare, education, and manufacturing.

The Landing of God[]

After Doomsday, The town was unaffected with only 532 refugees coming into the town. But this would soon change with cancer-killing almost 500 townsfolk and 400 refugees, this used up most of the town's medicine and killed off the mayor of the town. After this, things continued to deteriorate when the 1984 harvest being half of the 1983 harvest. By 1987, the town was on the verge of collapse, with no food reserves or medicine remaining. However, the people of Fort Scott were saved on a long-lost date during the biggest storm of the year. A group of people were huddled up in the McDonald Mall on Main Street sheltering from the storm when a large Cow flys through the window. It is said by the now High Priestess was once a refugee in the mall on fateful day that the storm cleared up when the cow rose up unscathed. When a man tried to kill the cow for food, its skin would not rupture. The cow was invincible. Some outsiders and skeptics postulate this was due to Radiation or incredible genes but when the harvest was bountiful that spring, the people knew that the cow who fell from the sky was their god.

Modern Times[]

In 1990, the Bovinist Church took over the government from the Mayor, with much protest from the Christians of the town who called the Bovinists cultists. On a fateful summer night in the year, 3 ALG or 1990 A.D. the Bovinist took every Christian leader and sacrificed them for a good harvest, they also rounded up all the non-believers and took them to work the Great Cows' bountiful fields. The Bovinist constructed a place for the Great Cow and made a statue to worship him. They found the best female cows for him so the Holy Family could continue. The high priestess began to make laws for the town and became the translator of the Great Cow. She would tell them what the Great Cow wants, needs, and decrees. In recent years the town has come into increasing contact along its northern border with a nation based on a president of the "old country", but it is no concern as they are good trade partners and are approved upon by the great cow himself.

The Bovinist Church[]

The Bovinist Church is the organization that worships the Great Cow. Its headquarters is in the Holy Place and 1st Bovinist Church. The Bovinist believe that that great cow is the real god who came to earth to save the good people of Fort Scott from the horrors of the apocalypse. The church is led by the head Priestess, the translator of god. who gives the people of Fort Scott the Great Cows' word. The church sacrifices an Animal (or human) every 10 days and feeds the Great Cow its blood. As a Trader from Lincoln once remarked, "That town was weird, they slit a throat of a rabbit, and fed it to a cow that they trained to drink blood."

Great Cow[]

There have been 6 generations of the Great Cow over the years, with each of them being bred with other genetically superior cows to make the next Great Cow even stronger. The Great Cow resides in the Holy Place which was once called Memorial Hall in the before times. The Great Cow sits on his throne made of bronze, steel, jewelry, and marble and is cushioned by the finest hay.

The City Government[]

The government of Fort Scott is decided by the highest priestess. She speaks for the great cow and everything she says is the word of god. She has appointed other members of the Bovinist order to manage the Great City's Bountiful Fields and resources. These managers report directly to her and follow her every order as if it is the word of god.

It is undeniably the center of the world and anyone who thinks differently or doesn't believes is obliviously crazy.

The Bronze Cow And 1st Bovinist Church[]
