The French Republic (French: République française), colloquially known as France, is a sovereign state whose core is located in Western Europe. The nation is bordered by Belgium, Hesse, and Luxembourg in the north; Italy, Swabia, and Switzerland in the east; Catalonia, the Basque Republic, Monaco, and Spain in the south; and with Brazil (via French Guiana) and the Netherlands (via French Guiana and the Netherlands Antilles) in the Caribbean. Paris is both the capital and largest city.
