The Franco-Portuguese war was a conflict between The Republic of Spain led by Franco and the Kingdom of Portugal and Great Britain. The conflict began when the Spanish first division crossed the Portuguese border and occupied the city of Vilar Formoso. The Portuguese quickly invoked the Anglo-Portuguese alliance when Great Britain joined the war.
