The Kingdom of France, known informally as France, was a former state in Western Europe, created in 1927 and abolished in 1958 after the Republican referendum of 1956.
After the fall and banning of Action Française in 1947, the Germans elected Vincent Auriol as Prime Minister of France, who served until 1955, when the Democratic Party candidate Charles de Gaulle was elected. De Gaulle believed that a republic was necessary to distance France from the German Empire and organised the republican referendum of 1956. 61.6% of voters voted Yes, with 38.4% voting to remain a kingdom.
Politics[]
From 1927 to 1947, the parliament of France was dominated by the Action Francaise party, which was a extreme-right, anti-German and anti-Semitic political party founded in 1902.
After the loss in the Second World War, Action Francaise was banned, and the Socialist Party was put into power by the German Forces. The Socialist Party held a majority in parliament until 1955, when the centre-right Democratic Party became the ruling party.
