• First Global War breaks out: known as the Second Great European War in Europe, the War of Confederate Independence in North America, and the Second Latin American War in South America.
  • The Confederate States of America declares its independence from the United States: President James Buchanan states that the Southern states that left the Union are in a state of rebellion.

1862

• The United States agrees to accept Confederate Independence.
• France agrees to armistice.
• Treaty of Potsdam:Confederation of the Rhine merged with Prussia to form the German Empire.
• Emperor Philip Joseph dies of haemophilia; he is succeeded by a nephew of Napoleon I, Napoleon III.

1863

• The Marseilles Pact is disbanded.

1864

• Abraham Lincoln is elected the 14^th President of the United States.

1876

• Brazil emancipates all slaves still within the Empire.
