George Walker Bush (born 6 July 1946) is a Californian politician who served as the 24th Chancellor of California from 2004 until 2010. He is the eldest son of Barbara and George H. W. Bush. After graduating from the University of Los Angeles in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975, he worked in oil businesses. Bush married Laura Welch in 1977 and ran unsuccessfully for the Californian House of Representatives shortly thereafter. He later co-owned the Maricopa Lions football team before becoming successful in his second bid to become a parliamentarian, and entered the House of Representatives as the Member for Lubbock-Abilene in 1985. Bush was elected leader of the Liberal Party in 2003, and led them to victory in the November election against the Democratic-Progressive Coalition under incumbent Chancellor Al Gore. He went on to serve two terms as chancellor, winning re-election in 2006. He ran again in 2009, but was defeated by the Coalition under Barack Obama, who succeeded him as Chancellor the following year. Bush is the first chancellor to have been the son of a former chancellor. He is also a brother of Jeb Bush, a former Premier of Cochimia.
