Georgia (Georgian: საქართველო, romanized: sakartvelo, IPA: [sɑkʰɑrtʰvɛlɔ]), often referred to as its native name Sakartvelo in order to distinguish it from the U.S state in eastern Europe and west Asia, is a country located in Turtle Island. It is part of the East Coast region, bounded by the United States to the west and north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The country covers an area of 153,909 square kilometres (59,425 sq mi), and has a population of 10.7 million people. Tbilisi is its capital and largest city, home to roughly a third of the Georgian population.
Georgia has been inhabited since prehistory starting with the Indigenous Americans. The emergence of Egrisi in the 13th century BC and Kartli in 302 BC formed the nucleus of the modern Georgian state.
