The German War was a military conflict that took place between 1938 and 1940. It broke out when declared war on after the latter country, under , broke the Treaty of Versailles, the treaty formed after the Great War. Britain was later joined by its allies, called the (Portuguese:Free). Germany later gained allies after helping a series of revolutions across Central and Eastern Europe, with National Socialist (Nazi) governments taking power.

  • 12 March - annexes (Anschluss).
  • 15 March - The makes an announcement on BBC radio stating: "The leader of Germany, Adolf Hitler, has 24 hours to order his troops to leave Austria and to recognise Austria's sovereignty and territory, otherwise I Neville Chamberlain and the rest of the British government will have no choice but to go to war with Germany."
  • 16 March - After no response, Britain declares war on Germany, starting the German War. The dominions of , , and all declare war as well.
  • 17 March - Hitler responds to the British declaration of war as foolish, saying "The British Empire is nothing compared to the glory of the German Reich."
