Exposition[]
The year is 1648, a pivotal moment in world history. The Thirty Years' War has just concluded in Europe with the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia, reshaping the political landscape of the continent and laying the foundations for the modern state system. This era marks the end of feudalism's dominance and the rise of nation-states, as well as the beginning of colonial expansions that will alter the global balance of power for centuries to come. In Europe, the map is being redrawn. The Holy Roman Empire, a patchwork of semi-autonomous states, has been weakened significantly. France and Sweden have emerged as influential powers, while Spain’s dominance wanes under the weight of economic troubles and military overextension. England is grappling with internal strife, leading to the eventual rise of parliamentary power. The Dutch Republic, having secured its independence from Spain, is poised to become a major mercantile and naval force. To the southeast, the Ottoman Empire remains a formidable presence, controlling vast territories in the Balkans, North Africa, and the Middle East. However, internal challenges and external pressures from European rivals are beginning to test the limits of its vast and diverse empire. The Ottomans must navigate a complex web of alliances and conflicts to maintain their influence. In Asia, the Mughal Empire stands at its zenith under Shah Jahan, overseeing a period of architectural splendor and economic prosperity. However, the seeds of future internal strife are already being sown. In East Asia, the Ming Dynasty in China is nearing its end, facing internal rebellion and external Manchu threats that will soon lead to the rise of the Qing Dynasty. Japan, under the Tokugawa Shogunate, enjoys a period of relative peace and isolation, focusing on internal stability and cultural development. Africa in 1648 is a continent of diverse kingdoms and cultures. The Saadi dynasty in Morocco, though in decline, continues to rule. In West Africa, the remnants of the Songhai Empire are divided among smaller states, while the Ashanti and Oyo Empires begin to rise in prominence. European coastal enclaves and trading posts mark the beginning of deeper intrusions that will intensify in the coming centuries. Across the Atlantic, the Americas are a patchwork of European colonies and indigenous empires. Spanish and Portuguese colonies dominate South and Central America, exploiting vast resources and indigenous labor. In North America, English, French, and Dutch colonies are expanding, often at the expense of native populations. The cultural and economic landscapes of these regions are being irreversibly altered through colonization, trade, and conflict. The year 1648 marks a turning point in global history. As a player, you will shape the destinies of nations and empires, navigating through a world in flux. Your strategic decisions will determine whether you lead your faction to glory or decline in this dynamic and challenging era. Embrace the challenge and rewrite history!
Rules[]
Timekeeping[]
Each day is a year. So, if you do the math, an hour is 15.2083 days, a minute is 0.253472 days, and a single second is 0.004224533 days, or 6.08 minutes.
Actions[]
You can take 5 actions in a day. Wanna know what counts as an action? Anything that changes your economic, political, military, or social situations counts as an action. However, if you just throw in some fun facts about what happened in your year, then that doesn't count as an action. To make your actions, type them in the Talk section of this page using bold followed by your username and the name of your country.
Resolving Military Clashes[]
There is no doubt that sometime in this game, you are going to have to attack a country controlled by another player (unless you pick some random Inuit subtribe). To resolve battles, roll a 20-sided die for each army. Add 0.5 for every 1000 people in that army.
Disasters[]
Every five years or so, the Moderator will randomly select a country to experience a disaster. These disasters may range from hurricanes to revolutions. If you experience a disaster and it upsets you, feel free to attempt to talk the Moderator into changing it. There's no guarantee that they will, but it's worth a shot.
