Graham Maximilian Puskás (born February 13, 1964) is an American-Hungarian Democratic Politician who serves as the United States Secretary of State since January 20, 2017. Graham was also a Senator from Massachusetts from 2007 until 2017, he also served as Governor of Massachusetts from 1999 until 2007 as well as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 until 1999. He was also a Left back in the United States football team and is considered one of the best Left backs in history as well as he is a Naval Officer.

Early Life and Education

Graham Maximilian Ezra Puskás was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on the February 13, 1964 to Ferenc Puskás (1946-2021), a Lieutenant Colonel and a first-generation Hungarian immigrant and Elizabeth Puskás (neé Bergen), a Librarian (1946). By age 12 he was in the Boston Soccer Academy but his father sent him at the age of 16 to a military academy and being an astute scholar he went to the United States Naval Academy and when he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in American History he went on a year’s tour and achieved the rank of a Colonel.

Football Career

For the 1986 Copa Americana Puskás was drafted as a left back for the National football team. He scored in the first match against the Bahamas on the 3rd minute, he scored a hat trick against Mexico and another goal in the Cup final against Canada, which they won. He signed a three year contract with Werder Bremen. During his first season he scored 3 goals and gave 5 assists and Bremen won the Bundesliga, they placed 2nd in 1988 and won the Bundesliga in 1989. He didn’t renew his contract, he returned to Massachusetts to marry his girlfriend Sarah Jenkins

Political Career

Puskás ran for Massachusetts 4th Congressional District as a Democrat, he got the endorsement of Governor Dukakis and with that he got the Democratic nomination and faced incumbent Debra Tucker. He ran as an American Veteran who brought America to the Soccer stage and won with 53.2% of the votes. The day of the election his wife had twins; Graham M. Puskás II and Elizabeth Puskás. He was re-elected in 1992, ‘94 and ‘96 every time with around 60% of the votes. He decided to not to run for a fifth term instead running for Governor of Massachusetts.

In 1998 2-term Governor Bill Weld has term limited so both primaries were wide open, Puskás announced his candidacy on the 5th of May 1997 and was neck in neck with Nantucket Mayor Henry Willman but by April 1998 Graham had pulled ahead and in June he was nominated, he fought Massachusetts Secretary of Commerce Fredrick Holland. The race was an expected to be a Republican landslides with Holland polling at 70% but after a scandal regarding Holland’s school years Puskás was polling with 55% and on Election Day Puskás won with 59.7% of the votes. He faced Fredrick Holland again in 2002 where he won with 52.1% of the votes.

Term

He began with tax increases on the 5% of the richest people and got a donations from the Gates foundation to improve the roads system which was finished in 2000 and then some of the taxes were decreased but some went to improve elderly and disability benefits. He became vice chair of the Governors association in 2001 and he left the post in 2004. He defunded the state guard as President Calvin suggested stating “We need the Military Police and the Tax money”. He ended his term on lower taxes but also with better pensions. His benefits program still stands today and every major candidate has promised to not repeal the program.

Senate

Being term limited in 2007 Puskás took the next logical step and ran for the 2006 Massachusetts Senate Seat. He easily won the Democratic nomination but faced incumbent Republican Anthony Silver. Silver’s term had been an uneventful one whilst Puskás had just overseen one of the best years of Massachusetts. Puskás won with 51% of the votes to Silver’s 49%. Puskás was re-elected in 2012 beating Realtor Henrietta Lookman with 55% of the votes. Upon his confirmation as Secretary of State by the Senate on January 18, 2017 he resigned his seat to TBD.

Immediately Graham wrote and passed the “Veteran Housing Bill.” The Bill had Veteran build barracks which would then be turned into small homes which the veterans would then get a discount offer on, these parts of town would then build shops, school, Hotels and factories which would then created housing and employment.

Secretary of State

Graham was nominated by President Ted Calvin on January 1st 2017 and was confirmed on January 18 then he was sworn in on January 20, 2017. He began establishing a Pro-American Government stronghold in Syria in May of 2017. With the help of Turkey and by guaranteeing equality for the Kurdistani people the United States Army took the nation by July 2018 and on August 1st the Arab Republic was established and 3 weeks later Lebanon joined the Federation.

Graham was asked by CNN in September of 2020 if he would continue work with the Calvin administration, Graham answered “if he’ll have me”. He has been mentioned as a possible candidate for President in 2024 but has yet to confirmed anything.

Graham was his son’s Campaign manager on his successful Congressional campaign for his old seat.
