Grand Duke Yaroslav Pavlovich Romanov (Russian: Великий Герцог Ярослав I Павлович Романов, born January 30, 1966) also known commonly by Yaroslav I Pavlovich, Grand Duke of Chernigov is a Russian businessman, banker and philanthropist who is the current Grand Duke of Chernigov, and the current owner of Royal Chernigov Bank Conglemerate, one of the Russian Empire's largest banking companies.
He also served as the head of the Tver Royal Credit Union, and later the Union of Royal Credit Unions of Chernigov and the former owner of Royal Club Tver. Forbes listed as one of the wealthiest people in the world, with a net worth of ₽355.3 billion, he is one of the wealthiest people in the Russian Empire.
Yaroslav is descended from the Rurikid-Romanov union between Grand Duke Sergius I Kirilovich (Romanov) and Princess Alessa Vladimirovna Rzhevskaya (Rurikid). As a result of the combination of both royal houses, he is considered part of both the Romanov and recognized Rurikid lineages, specifically the House of Rzhevsky.
Biography[]
Yaroslav is the eldest between Grand Duke Paul I Vladimirovich and Princess Makariya Igorovna Krupskaya of Minsk. Known as the "Ruthenian faction" of the Romanovs, by the decree set forth by Tsar Cyril I, this faction has retained the rights to become ruling grand dukes and princes of Chernigov.
He has three younger brothers, Grand Duke Miroslav, Grand Duke Vladislav, Grand Duke Oleg and two young sisters, Grand Duchess Lyudmila and Grand Duchess Anatoliyana.
Military service[]
Yaroslav joind the Imperial Russian Navy in 1983. Grand Duke Paul Vladimirovich however, did not immedietly sign Yaroslav into inheriting the position as the owner of United Chernigov Bank. Only until Yaroslav proved himself is when Grand Duke Paul Vladimirovich signed him as the inheritent, while his siblings inherited lesser-expensive properties.
Tumultuous 1990s - 2008[]
During the Tumultuous 1990s, and the devaluation of the Russian ruble, United Chernigov Bank suffered as a result. Many were forced to close down.
In 1996, many of the Royal Credit Unions in Chernigov, who suffered much devastation, and upon seeing no need to independent businesses, merged into the Cooperation of Royal Credit Unions of Chernigov, now one of the largest credit unions in the Russian Empire.
Due to the lack of wealth that can possibly be attained from his banking career, the Grand Duke became involved in Russian cultural organizations outside Russia.
As Grand Duke of Chernigov[]
After Grand Duke Paul I Vladimirovich passed away in 2006, Yaroslav succeeded him as the Grand Duke of Chernigov. He thus, got to inherit the wealth from the Cooperation of Royal Credit Unions, as well as the Royal Chernigov Bank.
In a time-span of two years, again, he faced lots of economic troubles due to sanctions from the West. However, Maria I Vladimirovna - Autocrat of all Russia; advised he become patient. In 2010, the ruble became the petrol-currency, turning Russia into a superpower overnight.
