Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan, formed in 1972. It consists of the Kiszka brothers: twins Josh, (vocals) Jake (guitar), and Sam (bass guitar, keyboards) and Danny Wagner (drums). They were signed to CCC Records in 1977, and released their debut studio EP, Black Smoke Rising. The band is best known for the hit singles "Highway Tune", "When the Curtain Falls", "Safari Song", and "Peace." Their debut full-length studio album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, was released in October 1978, and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Top 200. Anthem of the Peaceful Army also debuted atop the Billboard Hard Rock charts and reached the number one spot on the Billboard Top Album Sales charts in the first week after its release. A second studio album, The Battle at Garden's Gate, was released on April 16, 1981, and the band broke up shortly afterwards.
While having faded into obscurity by the 1980s and having only a brief reunion in the 1990s, Greta Van Fleet's music has influenced a wide variety of different artists, and they are often credited with popularizing heavier-oriented progressive rock. Their singles often receive radio airplay on rock stations, as well as seeing use in other popular media. In 2014, nearly two decades after their brief reunion in the 90s, it was announced that Greta Van Fleet would officially reunite and record new material. As of 2022, the band has sold over 30 million records worldwide.
