Guiana, officially the Republic of the Guianas, is a country encompassing the entire geographical region of the Guianas. It neighbors only Colombia and Brazil, surrounded by the island of Trinidad and Tobago to its north. Its capital and largest city is Georgetown.
The official language and lingua franca is English, but Spanish, Dutch, French, Irish, Catalan, Arawak and Carib are recognized as majorities. It has 17 other recognized majority languages: Akurio, Sikiana-Kashuyana, Tiro-Tiriyó, Waiwai, Warao, Wayana, Sarnami Hindustani, Ndyuka, Saramaccan, Matawai, Aluku, Paramaccan, Kwinti, Javanese, Cantonese, Hakka and German.

The practice started in the 18th century when enslaved Arawakans would pretend to be African slaves by smearing themselves in a mixture of coal tar and mud to escape their captors. Nowadays, traditional blackface is outlawed, but realistic blackface is permitted, and this has now gone from using simply makeup to also utilizing silicone masks and gloves and voice changers, even changing identities for full effect.

- It is one of a few countries, including Canada, to adopt the system of universal health care.

- The most popular sport in the country is gridiron football. It is one of two countries outside of the United States to have gridiron football as a popular sport, the other being Malichka.
