The Republic of Haiti (French: République d'Haïti), commonly known as Haiti (Haïti), is an island nation located in the Caribbean. A former French colony, Haiti gained independence during the chaos of the French Rebellion (1789-1792) and the successful Slave Rebellion of 1791. Throughout the 19th Century, Haiti would secure full control over the island of Saint Domingue.
Today, Haiti is a Black-dominated nation, populated by dependence of former African-born slaves, those of mixed ancestry, and those of White-European descent (mostly from former slave owners, Spaniards, and former revolutionaries of the French Rebellion and other exiled Frenchmen).
