The Holy Russian Empire (Russian: Священная Российская Империя) was an empire that existed from 1815 to 1917, and also held a colony in North America. It was a successor of the Tsardom of Russia, and it rose out of Napoleon's defeat in the Napoleonic Wars. In the aftermath of the collapse of the Russian Empire and the February Revolution, the short-lived Russian Provisional Government proclaimed the establishment of the Russian Republic as a successor across its territories.
