The House of Golitsyn (Russian: Голицын; Belarusian: Галіцын, Halicyn; Lithuanian: Golicinas), also known by other spellings such as Golytzin or Galitzine family is one of the largest and wealthiest princely families of the noble houses in the Russian Empire and Belarus, descended from the Russian and Orthodox factions of the Gediminids. They bear many titles, although mainly Prince of Lithuania, but also Prince of Siberia, Prince of Manchuria, Prince of Chernigov, Prince of South Russia, Prince of Bukhara and within Belarus, are a landless title.
Throughout their history, they have been boyars, warlords, diplomats, generals (the Mikhailovichs), stewards, chamberlains, the richest men of Russia (the Alexeyevichs), and provincial landlords (the Vasilyevichs). Since 1694 Bolshiye Vyazyomy was one of the ancestral estates of the Golitsyns, but many others, like Arkhangelskoye Palace and Dubrovitsy near Podolsk, were owned by different branches or members of the family.
In the 1850s the Russian memoirist Filipp Vigel despaired: "So numerous are the Golitsyns that soon it will be impossible to mention any of them without the family tree at hand".
During the Russian Civil War, many Golytsins suffered at the hands of the Bolsheviks, until the Bolshevik defeat. Afterwards, the succeeding Tsar, Cyril I Vladimirovich helped many return to Russia, however many others stayed in their new host nations to build their wealth and fortune. A similar event occurred during the Tumultuous 1990s, as many Golytsins had been businessmen who had economies ties in both Russia and the West, victim to Western sanctions.
Today, the Golytsins are one of the wealthiest Russian families, with an accumulated net worth of ₽1.1 trillion ($1.1 trillion OTL USD).
Within Belarus[]
In Belarus, the House of Golitsyn, due to their Gediminid descent, are one of the ruling royal houses, who partake in the Upper House elections, to assume the role as the King or Queen of Belarus, a political system taken from Malaysia.
