The House of Gorchakov (Russian: Горчако́в) also known in the west as Gorchakoff, is a Rurikid-based noble princely family in the Russian Empire. They are currently the ruling local nobility of the Principality of Kaluga, where they originated and are based from its capital city, Peremyshl.
They currently bear the titles Prince/Princess of Kaluga, Prince/Princess of Siberia, Prince/Princess of Kharbin and Prince/Princess of Murmansk, and Prince/Princess of the Volga respectively.
Most of the Gorchakovs were known for their role in the Imperial Russian military and government, to which the most famous came Prince Alexander Gorchakov. Afterwards, they faded out of prominence, and most lived overseas in France, but like the other nobilities, gradually and slowly re-migrated back to the Russian Empire.
Despite their historical prominence, the Gorchakovs one of the less-known Russian nobilities. However, they have managed to retain their prominence, via the marriages of Gorchakov princesses to non-Rurikid nobilities such as the House of Wrangel, House of Ungern-Sternberg and the House of Livensky, also as part of concentrated efforts to "Russify" those families as they are of non-Russian origin. Its current head is Prince Leonardo Vladimirovich Gorchakov.
