The House of Kaplanov (Russian and Kumyk: Гапланов; Azeri: Капланын оғлу, Kaplanın oğlu) also spelled by Gaplanov are a princely noble family in the Russian Empire of Kumyk origin. They are currently the ruling nobilities of Dagestan and Azerbaijan, and thus, bear the titles Prince/Princess of Dagestan, Prince/Princess of Azerbaijan, Prince/Princess of Chernigov, Prince/Princess of the Volga and Prince/Princess of Alaska respectively, with many landless branches also existing.
Nominally a Muslim dynasty, thanks to the marriage of some Kaplanov princes to Christian princesses, the family has both Muslim and Orthodox factions. However, while the Muslim factions have retained their titles Prince/Princess of Dagestan and Prince/Princess of Azerbaijan respectively, those Kaplanovs who have become Orthodox have become Prince/Princess of Chernigov, Volga and Alaska.
Due to the active participation of some Kaplanovs in the Russian invasion of Saudi Arabia, they are now among one of the wealthiest families in the Russian Empire, with a combined net worth of $104.3 billion. This would also make them the wealthiest Islamic noble family in the Russian Empire.
