The House of Massalski (Russian: Массальский, Massal'skiy; Belarusian: Масальскі, Masaĺski) also known officially in Russian Empire as Mozelsky (Russian: Мозельский, Mozel'skiy) and in Mexico as the De Masále is an Eastern European noble family, currently based in the Principality of Lithuania and the Grand Duchy of Chernigov, Poland and Belarus, with a faction in Mexico as the ruling princes of the Principality of Jalisco.

They currently bear the titles of Duke/Duchess of Chernigov, Prince/Princess of Lithuania, King/Queen of Belarus, Prince/Princess of Poland, Prince/Princess of Jalisco.

The family is descended from the Rurikids, however despite this, the majority of its history is within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and was considered a Polish nobility of Catholic faith. It isn't the until the re-rise of the Tsardom in Russia that many of its members reverted to the Orthodox faith of their ancestors, and became rulers of western Russia, and influential politicians in Belarus.

After the republics were overthrown in Poland and Belarus, Massalskis were installed as the respective monarchs of the two nations, namely Michael I for Poland (born Michal Massalski) and Alexander I for Belarus (Aleskandar Massalski).

History[]

Role in the Russian Civil War[]

In the waning days of the Russian Civil War, the Massalskis saw hope in the resurgence of their nobility in Russia, as Poland was under a republican form of government. Therefore, Polish monarchists, whom the Massalskis were affiliated with, supported the Tsarists, and the ascent of Grand Duke Kirill I Vladimirovich. Szymon Massalski, Janusz Massalski and Tomasz Massalski went to serve in the White and Tsarist forces of western Russia, as part of the Polish Volunteers.

The three consequently converted to Russian Orthodoxy in Moscow, and became respectively known as Prince Simeon (Szymon), Prince Vladimir (Janusz) and Prince Michael/Mikhail (Tomasz), and partook in the Western Offensives.

As Princes of Chernigov[]

Therefore, afterwards, as promised by Cyril I, the Grand Principality of Chernigov was re-formed, with the Russian faction of House of Massalskis as the ruling nobility. It would be the first time in over centuries that the Massalskis would return to the Russian Orthodox faith of their ancestors. Szymon Massalski, as Prince Simon I Pavlovich, became the head of the Russian faction, and Grand Prince of Chernigov.

Within Poland and Belarus[]

In Poland and Belarus, the Massalskis lived under the reality of living in a republican state. However, they maintained good relations with the Polish and Belarusian governments. Still, many more ended up migrating back to Russia, since Baron Wrangel promised not to intervene in Poland's international affairs. Therefore, the Polish Massalskis lived underneath the radar. In Belarus, the Massalskis lived as part of the elite, and controlled the Polish-speaking territories. However, President Seirida feared that they would use their influence to gain power over the native Belarusians, and often made efforts to hinder their ascent to positions of political authority.
