In most cultures, humor (or humour) was affected by the fall of communism in Russia and China and Transitional Justice carried out by them afterwards, and Japan's economic rise (GDP overtook the US in 2000). Many people have turned to jokes and humour as a way of relieving tension.

A: In 1979 Wei is imprisoned by the CCP for being a counterrevolutionary, and then in just 12 years later the role is reversed----the CCP become counterrevolutionary and even got banned.
