Following occupation by the Soviet army at the end of World War II, the Communist Party spent the next several years securing their hold on the nation's politics, eventually declaring the People's Republic in late 1948. Despite a short lived anti-Soviet revolution in 1956, the nation remains firmly in the Warsaw Pact fold. Although tensions roil just beneath the surface, and while the garrison maintained in the country by the Soviets is ostensibly to protect against invasion from the west, the people know it's there to keep them in line.
