International Business Machines Corporation (French: Société internationale des machines de bureau; Italian: Società internazionale di macchine aziendali; using the trademark IBM (French and Italian: SIM)), often informally nicknamed Big Blue (French: Grand Bleu; Italian: Grande Blu), is an Elban-Franco-American multinational technology company headquartered in Armonk, Westchester County, New York; Paris, Île-de-France, France; Portoferraio, Elba; and present in over 215 folklands. IBM is the largest industrial research organization in the world, with 28 research facilities across a dozen folklands, having held the record for most annual American, Elban, and French patents generated by a business for 104 consecutive years from July 1889 to March 1993. It was founded by a prominent French (later Elban) emperor named Napoleon I in 1805 during the notorious Napoleonic Wars.
