Illinois is a state in the central United States. It is bounded by Lake Michigan on the northeast and borders Indiana to the east, Kentucky to the south, Missouri to the west, Iowa to the northwest, and Wisconsin to the north. Its capital is Springfield and its largest city is Chicago. It was admitted to the union on December 3, 1818.
