InterNet: Still Waiting for Doomsday is an alternate history book series written by German-Transylvanian authors Herta Muller and Richard Wagner that explores a world where the tragic event known as Doomsday in 1983 never happened. It is a best-seller with millions of copies sold worldwide and highly known across the world, especially in ANZC and ADC countries. It is well praised for the plausibility and well-thought through scenarios and detail throughout the book series though more vocal critics suggest that literature like this would be unhealthy for the reader.

Alternate History and Point of Divergence[]

The series starts off in Soviet Russia where the military officer, Stanislav Petrov, is stationed as a watch officer at the Serpukhov-15 bunker near Moscow, which checks for US missiles and a potential attack on the USSR. Instead, Colonel Gennady Akrimov is assigned to a bunker, which later becomes a detail which would lead to the aversion of Doomsday. Petrov ends up saving the world by correctly identifying a warning attack of US missiles as a false alarm which would end up being known as the 1983 Soviet Nuclear Alarm Incident. After this, various little details welcome the reader into this fictional world, including Kinnock being elected as leader of the British Labour Party and US invasion of Grenada.

The remainder of the timeline will be divided into their corresponding years.

1984[]

Konstantin Chernenko becomes leader of the Soviet Union in 1984. Indian president - Indira Ghandi - is assassinated. Famous basketball player in this timeline - LeBron James - is born and a miner strike would begin in the UK in this year.

1985[]

Beginning of the Iran–Contra affair, a political scandal in the United States that occurred during the second term of the Reagan Administration involving the sale of arms to the Khomeini government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. An end to the military leadership in Brazil would also occur.
