Ioannis "Weird Ioannis" Yankovic (born October 23 1959) is a Rhomanian comedy musician, writer, and actor. He is well known for making comedic songs, mostly parodies of popular songs from other musicians. He also makes original songs that are in the style of other music, as Rhomanian style medleys of several pop culture songs, most of which feature his trademark lyre guitar.
Ever since having his first song (being a parody of the song "Να'τανε το '21") aired on "Radyo 1" in 1976 at age 16, As of 2013, Yankovic had sold over 6 million records in Rhomania, and released over 170 original songs and song parodies, and played more than 1,100 live performances. His work earned him five MAD Video Music Awards and a further 5 nominations.
Yankovic has found success by skillfully using music videos to make fun of European pop culture, the original artists of the songs, and the original music videos. His use of Odno and other video sites to publish his videos helped increase the sales of his subsequent albums as music television declined and video sharing platforms gained popularity. Since Υπoχρεωτική Διασκέδαση, he has not put out a complete album, instead choosing to release singles on time.
Along with his musical career, he wrote and starred in the television series Εκπομπή Ιωάvνη (1997) and the film Τηλεβί-Ηλίθιος (1989). He has produced two comedic films about himself, Η τρελή ζωή του Ιωάννη (1985) and Η ιστορία του Ιωάννη Γιάνκοβιτς (2022). He has acted in several television shows and web series, in addition to starring in Ioannis TV on MAD TV. He has written two children's books, Όταν Μεγαλώσω (2011) and Ο νέος μου δάσκαλος και εγώ! (2013).
