Iowa is the newest territory in the United States, mainly centered around the northern and western reaches of the former state.
History[]

American Spring[]
In August 2022, the American federal government identified western Iowa as a potential candidate for annexation into the United States due to its vast mineral deposits, such as sand and gravel that would be useful for building supplies, and its relatively sparse population that allowed for the avoidance of the devastation brought on by Doomsday. Due to this, Iowa was seen as a good potential site for new communities. The Iowa Territory was officially established on 9 September 2022 after authorization from Torrington. Iowa itself was also a major point in travel between Missouri and the mainland United States, and a strategic location to be annexed to ensure that federal aid towards Missouri was not robbed by bandits.
On 30 September 2022, the U.S. Congress passed the 2022 Iowan Citizenship Act, that allowed stateless survivors in the general region of the Iowa territory to receive citizenship documents per request in a nearly unprecedented move concerning free travel in North America. Centers to receive official citizenship documents were established across multiple cities, including Sioux City and American-controlled areas of Council Bluffs. Up to ten thousand people went on journeys by foot, horse, and rarely automobiles along the Iowa Trail, a colloquial term used to refer to various roads and trails used to Sioux City that stretched all the way to Cedar Rapids.
Present day[]
The Iowa Territory has been most useful in its role as a safe route between the western United States and its newest state of Hannibal.
Demographics[]
Of the territory's nearly 119,000 people, nearly two-thirds live in Sioux City, the largest city in the territory and its de-facto capital. Like elsewhere in the Midwest and Great Plains, many of its residents hail from the surviving refugees from the metropolitan strikes.
