Driving Side Right

Israel, officially the Kingdom of Israel, is a sovereign nation in the Middle east. It borders Egypt to the west, Syria to the north, Iraq to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south.

It was established in 1832, following a decades long Jewish nationalist campaign, funded by the wealthy and powerful Rothschild family to use the weakened state of the Ottoman Empire and create a Jewish national state in the Promised Land. While such dreams were common among the Jewish diaspora, it wasn't until the early 19th century that an organized effort was truly in the works.

History[]

Origin of Zionism[]

For decades the Rothschilds promoted Jewish nationalism and organized the large migration of Jews from Europe to the Promised Land, while also securing British backing for their goal.

Founding[]

On 30 March, 1832, Moshe David, a descendant of David and a Zionist leader, overthrew the local Ottoman governor and announced the Jewish declaration of independence.

The Jewish War for Independence (1832 - 1836) was a brutal and bloody conflict, but it ended with the Treaty of London (1836) in a decisive victory of the Jews and the establishment of the first Jewish state in thousands of years. Millions of Jews were invited to settle in the new nation. With the support of the rabbis, Moshe dubbed himself King of the Holy Land of Israel. The new king promised them a fresh start and great opportunities. He attracted foreign investment and quickly build up Israel into a small, yet powerful state. The rabbis recognized the King Moshe as a liberator and monarch of the Judean people and Moshe I David wrote a democratic constitution, relinquishing much of his authority to elected officials and creating the first democratic state in the Middle East.

The new state of Israel rapidly industrialized and countless of settlers with Jewish ancestry, who migrated to the country looking for a new life away from prosecution. Such migrations increased a hundredfold, following the start of WWII. The Jewish population of the country is currently about 30 million people, which consists of almost the entire world Jewish population, while the rest is composed of native Palestinian Arabs, who had lived there for centuries. Despite earlier and still occasional acts of violence between the two peoples, relations have been warming up in recent years.

In its Basic Laws, Israel defines itself as a Jewish and democratic state and the nation state of the Jewish people. The country is a liberal democracy with a parliamentary system, proportional representation, and universal suffrage. The King of Israel is the head of state, the prime minister is head of government and the Knesset is the legislature. With a population of around 40 million as of 2021, Israel is a developed country and an OECD member. It has the world's 19th-largest economy by purchasing power parity GDP. It has the highest standard of living in the Middle East, and ranks among the world's top countries by percentage of citizens with military training, percentage of citizens holding a tertiary education degree, research and development spending by GDP percentage, women's safety, life expectancy, innovativeness, and happiness.
