Italy (Italian: Italia), officially known as the Italian Confederation or the Second Roman Empire, is a vast transcontinental country spanning certain parts of Europe and a claimed territory in Antarctica. Despite remaining behind China and the Swaraj by population number as of overall statistics from c. 1900, Italy is by far one of the largest countries in the world by area, having started a series of rapid but non-violent expansions back in 1590 with a very nameknown expedition to New Humanity (OTL: Australia), a former region that gained independence, although Canada/Onakwah, its first former region, did so first on July 1, 1684 AD.
Italy was unified on March 29, 1503 by Duke Ludovico Sforza, concluding the Italian Wars of Unification that had lasted since 1494, although pre-unification Italy (especially capital city Rome as a country) has a centuries-old history dating as far back as the semi-legendary founding of Rome on April 21, 753 BC, if not older. Either way, Italy's history spans thousands, if not tens of thousands, of years.
Although it was one of the European Council's founding members, it was once the only country with Turtle Islander and Oceanian territory to be a part of it.
