Jair Messias Bolsonaro (March 21, 1955 -) he is a retired captain, politician affiliated with PRENA. He was Mayor of Rio de Janeiro from 2021 to 2022. He was a federal deputy for seven terms between 1991 and 2021, being elected through different parties throughout his political career. In 2018 he disputed the elections for governor of Rio de Janeiro by the PSDB, ended up losing by Wilson Witzel with a difference of 6.7% of the votes obtained. 2 years ran for mayor and won with 59.4% of the votes in the first round.
He graduated from the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras in 1977 and served in the Brazilian Army's field artillery and parachuting groups. He became known to the public in 1986, when he wrote an article for Veja magazine in which he criticized salaries of military officers. As a result, he was imprisoned for fifteen days, despite receiving letters of support from colleagues in the army. He was acquitted two years later. He was re-elected 6 times federal deputy of Rio de Janeiro, in 2014 he became the second most voted by the state in that election.
