The Empire of Japan (Japanese:大日本帝国) is a nation located in Eastern Asia under the Chinese sphere of influence on the Japanese Archipelago located east of mainland Asia and west of the Americas. Historically Japan developed in independence while choosing to accept Chinese influence. Forcibly the nation pursued political isolation until the rise of the global industrial revolution. Japan briefly became a chocking point between China, Great Britain, Russia and other European powers. Enduring years of civil discord internally Japan first pursued a path of cooperation of Russia before agreeing to be a founding member of the Chinese led East Asian Confederation in 1924. To the present day Japan retains its unique identity and elements of its medieval heritage. While set back for decades due to its lack of natural resources the economy has rapidly developed from the 1990's as an educated public took advantage of the tech economy. Considered a hub of both grunt programming and more recent tech entrepreneurship Japan's other industries are based on its reputation as an "ancient land" including fishing and tourism. Japan's government is a unique form of representative-administrative monarchy based on the relationship of the Samurai military caste, their leader called the Shougun, the emperor and common citizens. While classified as a Buddhist country Japan's native religion Shintoism has retaken prominence since the 20th century.
