The 37th election of the Senate of the Republic of Japan (Japanese: 第37回参議院議員選挙, dai-sanjūnana-kai Sangi'in gi'in senkyo) was held on Sunday, 22 March 2020, to elect 82 of the 245 members of the Senate, the upper house of the Japanese Congress. It was held in conjunction with the 36th National Assembly and 19th presidential elections.
As a result of the election, the Liberal Democratic coalition under incoming Senate leader Akiko Santō lost its majority, falling from 124 seats (including independent supporters) to 115. However, the LDP negotiated a coalition deal with Komeito following the election, allowing them to maintain control over the Senate. It is expected that on 5 April 2020, on the opening of the 37th Congress, Santō will be elected Majority Leader, replacing her predecessor, outgoing Senator Chuichi Date.
