Affiliated to the Democratic Party, he also served, he served as Governor and Senator of Delaware from 1973 to 2011. He was a candidate in the 2016 elections, with his deputy candidate Hillary Clinton, where he won against Florida senator Jeb Bush. He was re-elected for his second term in 2020

In 1953, Biden and his family moved to Delaware. He became a lawyer in 1969 and was elected to the New Castle County Council in 1970. In 1972, his election to the Senate made him the sixth-youngest senator in US history. In the Senate, he served for many years and chaired the Committee on Foreign Affairs. In 1991, he opposed the Gulf War, but defended the intervention of the United States and Iraq in 1996. During the Second American Civil War, he supported a strong security protocol in the Southern Region of the United States, and he strongly aligned himself with President Al Gore.

He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for the 1988 and 1996 presidential elections. In 2001, he was elected with more than 50% of the valid votes as Governor of the State of Delaware, where he ended up being elected with more than 66% of the valid votes. In 2008, he was chosen as the Vice Presidential candidate by Vice President Hillar Clinton. However, despite popular support, the Clinton-Biden ticket failed to win due to the difference of 2 electoral colleges to the Cheney-Mccain ticket. In 2010, he announced his candidacy for the Democratic primary, but with his worsening health in 2011 he ended up canceling his pre-candidate, leaving Senator John Wolfe Jr. gain popularity, with everything ended up losing the election. After recovering from health in 2013, Biden returned to politics in 2015 when he announced his candidacy for the primaries, returning to being a strong candidate for president. After securing the nomination, he chose Hillary Clinton as his vice president and both were elected in November, defeating Republican Jeb Bush.

Biden was sworn in on January 20, 2017, becoming the oldest president to hold office and the second Catholic. Internally, Biden focused on decreasing the country's unemployment, which had a slight drop of 1.4% from 2017 to 2020. Ending the ban on transgender people serving in the Armed Forces, increasing employment protection for federal workers. However, his popularity has fallen with rising inflation due to the increase in fuels in 2021, in addition to the Esso scandal in 2018, with some accusations from Biden in this scandal. For international policy, he withdrew troops in Iran in May 2017, and strengthened armaments for the government of Afghanistan and Syria. Tensions between Russia and China have increased more than ever since the end of the Cold War, peaking during the 2021-2022 Ukrainian Civil War, where Biden's United States accused Russia of "supporting terrorist organization".

Political Career[]

1972 U.S. Senate campaign in Delaware[]

In 1972, Biden defeated Republican incumbent J. Caleb Boggs to become the junior U.S. senator from Delaware. He was the only Democrat willing to challenge Boggs. His campaign had almost no money, and he was given no chance of winning. His platform focused on withdrawal from Vietnam, the environment, civil rights, mass transit, more equitable taxation, health care, and public dissatisfaction with "politics as usual". A few months before the election Biden trailed Boggs by almost thirty percentage points, but his energy, attractive young family, and ability to connect with voters' emotions worked to his advantage, and he won with 50.5 percent of the vote.

Death of wife and daughter[]

On December 18, 1972, a few weeks after the election, Biden's wife Neilia and one-year-old daughter Naomi were killed in an automobile accident while Christmas shopping in Hockessin, Delaware. Neilia's station wagon was hit by a tractor-trailer truck as she pulled out from an intersection. Their sons Beau and Hunter survived the accident and were taken to the hospital in fair condition, Beau with a broken leg and other wounds, and Hunter with a minor skull fracture and other head injuries. Doctors soon said both would make full recoveries.[4]:96 Biden considered resigning to care for them, but Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield persuaded him not to.[45]

Years later, Biden said he had heard that the truck driver allegedly drank alcohol before the collision. The driver's family denied that claim, and the police never substantiated it. Biden later apologized to the family.

U.S. Senate (1973–2000)[]

Biden was sworn in on January 5, 1973, by secretary of the Senate Francis R. Valeo at the Delaware Division of the Wilmington Medical Center. Present were his sons Beau (whose leg was still in traction from the automobile accident) and Hunter and other family members. At 30, he was the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history.

To see his sons every day, Biden commuted by train between his Delaware home and Washington, D.C.—90 minutes each way—and maintained this habit throughout his 36 years in the Senate. But the accident had filled him with anger and religious doubt. He wrote later that he "felt God had played a horrible trick" on him, and he had trouble focusing on work.

Biden credits his second wife, teacher Jill Tracy Jacobs, with the renewal of his interest in politics and life: they met in 1975 on a blind date and were married at the United Nations chapel in New York on June 17, 1977. They are Roman Catholics and attend Mass at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine in Greenville, Delaware.

Kennedy. A few days later an incident in law school in which he drew text from a Fordham Law Review article with inadequate citations was publicized. Biden was required to repeat the course and passed with high marks.

Joe Biden's Campaign has become notorious for seeking to define Cruz's views as "inconsistent" and "extremist" due to his controversial arguments in his past campaigns. With several advertisements against the candidate, this created a big advantage for the Democratic candidate. On the other hand, the Republican candidate campaigned with a dilemma of ''great america again'', in addition to making a lot of propaganda against the biden government with the fall of the economy in 2019.

Candidate for re-election Joe Biden ended up winning the election with 279 in the Electoral College with a small percentage of Ted Cruz taking 259 in the Electoral College. Taiwan Recognition and the US-China Diplomatic Crisis[]

Biden speaks during a news conference in Tokyo

Biden discussing at a conference in Tokyo about recognizing Taiwan in September 2022

After Belize failed to recognize Taiwan as a legitimate China in December 2021, President Tsai Ing-wen tried her best to convince the West to recognize the state of Taiwan as a Legitimate China and to undo the trade agreements. Despite being a very risky decision, Joe Biden was the first leader to accept it, setting up a meeting with the president in Los Angeles and then going to Taipei in February 2022.

China's tensions over the island of Taiwan began to intensify around March 2022, and the then Taiwanese government accelerated talks between the United States. Joe Biden realizing this, strongly approached the island, visiting Taipei City and giving '' anti-China '' and '' Pro-Taiwan recognition '' speeches. Biden's speeches angered the Chinese government, which the following day responded by suspending trade agreements between China and the US.

Possible US recognition of the island of Taiwan is becoming increasingly real. In a meeting with Prime Minister Shizo Abe, Biden discussed responding to a journalist who asked if he would recognize Taiwan's Independence, the president said he is talking to Western countries and that if it were up to him, he would recognize it.

On October 20, 2022, the Government of Joe Biden, by an official note, recognized the Republic of Taiwan for the first time in history, describing it as a '' Democratic and Legitimate China ''. Hours later, Biden delivered a national address, stating that from now on, the US will work together with the Republic of China for a ''more democratic and prosperous world'', Biden then stated that if China wants to invade or bomb the ROC, it will suffer ''heavy consequences''.

Foreign policy[]

Syria[]

After his inauguration as president of the United States, Joe Biden (with the same arguments as Al Gore), began to have a split with the government of Bashar al-Assad, found that Al-Assad was a great enemy of the United States, after the great Arab Spring 2018, the Syrian government ended up cracking down on Syrian citizens against the government wanting more freedom. This provoked revolt and the Biden government sanctioned the country for 1 year until with the long decision, the US government invaded the country. After the fall of the dictator, the president ended up establishing a new government, putting ambassadors back in the country.

Joe Biden won the election, and claimed that ''the Russian government nearly achieved its goal of Cruz's victory in the election''. With these allegations, the president biden blame is intensified relations between the two countries.

Brazil[]

Joe Biden and Michel Temer

Joe Biden was the first president of the United States to recognize Brazil as its great and main military ally, this was confirmed after negotiations with President Aécio Neves and Minister of Foreign Affairs Michel Temer in 2018. In 2019, with the great economic advance in Brazil, Joe Biden's United States ended up trading products for exports to Brazil and the United States.

Biden described a "new era" of economic relations that would consolidate Brazil not only in Latin America but throughout the world. The two presidents met for the last time in January 2021 when they met at a luncheon at the Planalto Palace.

After the results of the 2022 elections, Biden congratulated Eduardo Leite's victory, posting on social media that ''Brazil's cooperation with the US will continue to strengthen''. Eduardo Leite, on a twitter, responded to Biden's publication that ''Brazil is at the disposal of the US, and that both countries are historic allies''.

China[]

Since Biden's inauguration in 2017, despite the great trade partnerships between the two nations, relations between the United States and China have seen a major downturn and certain tensions during his tenure.

Biden and Xi Jiping

Biden and Xi Jinping at the 2019 G20 Summit

As of the year 2018, China started to have a great economic growth of 14.4% between 2014 to 2018 (from 4 to 4 years). As a result, the American trade space began to have significant reductions in recent years. In January 2020, the first accusations and complaints about Huawei's company began to appear, where they began to have several reports of US soldiers who had some kind of tracking, which caused a great scandal in the company. In May 2020, the United States government announced a ban on the sale of Huawei cell phones to important positions such as the Army, and in October, the government announced a total ban on the Huawei company. The banning of Huawei in the US caused the beginning of tension between the US and China, which has never had major diplomatic problems in decades. In January 2021, other Chinese companies were also banned in the United States such as TikTok.

In 2022, the first tensions between Taiwan and China began, with China investing in the army thanks to its economic growth, the possible invasions of China under Taiwan began to gain repercussion. In May 2022, Chinese planes took off in the maritime area of Taiwan, causing great tensions in the event of an invasion. President Biden said he "will defend Taiwan as much as he needs to" and "if China attacks Taiwan, the United States will fight back". The argument caused great diplomatic tension between the US and China, to the point where President Biden visited the island on July 19.

On October 14, 2022, after Biden's second visit to the island of Taiwan, the president stated that ''Taiwan is a Legitimate China'' and that unlike ''Xi Jiping's China'', the country is ''a great democracy for the eastern world''. The President's statement caused huge outrage to the Chinese government, resulting in the withdrawal of thousands of Chinese companies and sanctions from China by the United States, this being the biggest peak of diplomatic tension between the two nations.

Like Cheney, Joe Biden was against Maduro's government from the beginning. In August 2017, Biden stated that ''the government of mature is a tomb of innocent people due to hunger in the country''.
