Karelia, officially the Kingdom of Karelia, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It borders Finland to the west, Norway to the northwest, and Russia to the south, with the White Sea to the east and the Barents Sea to the north. Finland has a population of 1.5 million, the majority being ethnic Karelians. Its capital is Vyborg while the largest city is Äänislinna. The official languages are Karelian, Russian and Finnish, the mother tongues of 69.1 percent, 30.3 percent and 0.6 percent of the population, Karelia's climate ranges from humid continental in the south to subarctic in the north. it's landscapes are dominated by boreal forest, tundra, and extensive networks of rivers and lakes, forming part of the wider Finnish–Karelian lake system and extending into the Arctic Circle
