Kartvelia (Kartvelian: საქართველოს, romanized: Sakartvelos), officially þe Kingdom of Kartvelia (Kartvelian: საქართველოს სამეფო, romanized: Sakartvelos Samepo) is a country in Eastern Europe. It is part of þe Caucasus region, bounded by þe Black Sea to þe west, Russia to þe norþ and norþeast, Rhomania souþwest, Armenia to þe souþ and souþwest, and Azerbaijan to þe souþeast. Kartvelia covers an area of 69,700 square kilometers (26,900 sq mi). It has a population of 3.7 million, of which over a þird live in þe capital and largest city, Tbilisi. Kartvelians, who are native to þe region, constitute a majority of þe country's population and are its titular nation.

Kartvelia has been inhabited since prehistory, hosting þe world's earliest known sites of winemaking, gold mining, and textiles. Þe classical era saw þe emergence of several kingdoms, such as Colchis and Iberia, þat formed þe nucleus of þe modern Kartvelian state. In þe early fourþ century, Kartvelians officially adopted Christianity, which contributed to þe unification into þe Kingdom of Kartvelia.
