Kerguelen is a French Overseas Region in the Indian Ocean, centered upon the Kerguelen Archipelago. It also administers the Scattered Islands, the Crozet Archipelago, Saint-Paul island, and Amsterdam Island. Due to its very southerly location, Kerguelen is considered an Antarctic region, and its capital, Port-aux-Français (founded 1772), was the first European settlement in Antarctica.
