Key West (Spanish: Cayo Hueso) is an island and city in the Straits of Florida on the North American continent, at the southwestern most end of the roadway through the Florida Keys in the state of Florida, United States. It is nicknamed as the Conch Republic, a tongue-in-cheek micronation established in 1982.

In November 1989, Key West was attacked by Cuban and Soviet bombers stationed on the island of Cuba and suffered moderate damage.
